queer winter camp
A winter retreat for queer joy and connection
Lanesboro, MN
Feb 6-8, 2026
Hosted by: Madelyn Steen and Kenen Heggernes
all-inclusive weekend for LGBTQ+ (30+)
in beautiful Lanesboro, MN
We’re heading to Eagle Bluff for a cozy 2-night winter weekend of queer camp fun. Picture fireside hangs, hot drinks, snowshoeing, crafts, board games, and plenty of time to just relax with new friends. The focus is on hygge vibes: warm, cozy, and connected, with a little outdoor adventure and a lot of laughter. We’ll swap stories and soak up that cabin-in-the-woods feeling that makes winter magical. With shared bunk-style lodging, delicious meals included, and plenty of time to relax and connect, this is your chance to recharge, make new friends, and carry the warmth of camp into the rest of the season.

“…the way people pulled me in and acknowledged me helped me feel seen and accepted, especially given the wonderful ways activities were led. It's incredible being in a space where the norm is queerness.”

Maddawg and Coach K have been friends since college and have been there for one another throughout their own journeys with queer identity. They designed Queer Winter Camp with the intention of including others in this special way of holding space for queerness and fun.

Our campus overlooks the Root River Valley and boasts modern facilities including climate-controlled buildings. All to provide a comfortable and inspiring setting!”
Queer Winter Camp is bunk-style lodging with 3-4 campers per dorm room. Each dorm room has its own bathroom, shower, sinks, but you’ll need to bring your own linens or sleeping bag.
If you have friends you’re signing up with, just let us know their names and we’ll try to get you all in a shared room.

We’re staying at a nature center in the woods. We’ve got a mix of activities that run from outdoor adventures to relaxing chill to group goofiness. The vibes are immaculate. This is our second time hosting a camp and the goal is mainly to make jokes in the woods with elder queers (using the term elder SO LOOSELY-we’re 30+ years old).

Queer Winter Camp is excited to share about a partial scholarship opportunity for any BIPOC community members interested in coming to camp.
The Queer Winter Camp BIPOC partial scholarship is for 4 campers for $100 off each.
This partial scholarship is available on a first come first serve basis. The privilege that affords some of us to attend or host this retreat was built upon trauma and inequity to BIPOC people and this scholarship is meant to be one small step towards acknowledging the harm.
Simply state you would like to use a scholarship at registration check-out, and if we have one available, it’s yours!

If you would like to donate to the BIPOC Fund for future retreat scholarships, please click on the DONATE button at the bottom of this page or contact Madelyn Steen at madelynsteen@hushmail.com We appreciate any and all donations!

“Queer camp was sooooo needed. It was like feeling weightless doing a back float in a beautiful lake! I felt so accepted, seen, heard, valued, and all those fabulous things!!!”
